After my pathetic (and wonderful) Friday morning in bed I decided that I needed to make more of an effort to get some fresh air. Saturday I woke up when I felt like it around 7:30. I crawled out of my net and demorrared with my coffee until around 10am. Then I stepped out. I was on my way to the river. I walked and walked and walked down a dirt road that wound through machambas (fields of corn mostly) and sparse bushy trees. The sky was huge and blue and had some clouds so there was a bit of a break from the sun. The wind was blowing so it wasn't too-hot-to-live. I never found the river but I saw a
Carmine Bee Eater, a 5
Blue-Cheeked Bee Eaters, a
White-Fronted Bee Eater, 2
Peregrine Falcons and another large bird of prey (maybe a Black Kite?)
I gave up on the river after 2 hours. I spied a ruin on the horizon and walked up to it. I thought it was a church at first because it had a big bell tower coming from the middle of the front wall. I walked in and it was lots of tiny rooms with 4 inches of goat-poop on the floor. It must have been a pretty fancy building when it was still occupied because one of the rooms still had a few pieces of marble flooring left. I forgot to take my camera along with me but I'll go back and get some pics for you all playing along at home.
I walked back to town and went straight to the store that has the one bicycle in town for sale. The owners of the shop are sort of like my host family. They wouldn't sell me the bicycle, they're going to get me a better one in the city this week. I bought two capulanas for curtains and another to have made into a pair of shorts. I can't wait to pick those up, they are going to be gaudy beyond measure. I'll make sure to post a picture of them next week. Also MY NEW BIKE. Oh boy. Just think of all the adventures I'll be going on soon. Maybe I'll even find the river.

These are my curtains. They look like bouquets of lightbulbs. Also my fan and my mosquito net, my two most valuable possessions. |

This is my cat. Puffin. She loves to eat these dried fish I buy at the market. I'm not sure if the fish-lady was impressed when I told her that I was buying the fish for my kitten. |

THIS IS A THING THAT EXISTS. That is all. |
