I got up super early (6:30am!) on Friday to go help do some landscaping around the school. On Thursday the director said that the professors needed to be at the office at 7am on Friday to do this cleaning. This was confusing because the students had been cleaning all week and it seemed like a super strange request. I told my friend George, the English teacher, that I didn't have an enxada or a rake or a tumbatumba (hand held machete like grass cutter) to bring and he made it sound like I didn't have to go if I didn't want to. I was pretty ready to let this one slide and chalk it up to misunderstanding. Still, I thought I'd make an effort to show up. So at about 7:10 I wandered over to the office, no one was outside so I went home. I thought about doing some lesson planning or other sort of work but I got bored after about 5 minutes. I spent the rest of Friday morning in bed feeling sorry for myself.
I watched a few episodes of SuperNatural. I paused between every episode to have an existential crisis for at least 3 minutes. What am I doing with my life, wah wah wah? I'm laying in bed at 10am on a Friday while the world goes on without me and I don't even know where to get WATER. I don't have any idea what's going on at my school and I don't have any friends except the vegetable lady who sends me inappropriate texts. wah wah wah I'm helpless.
After about 3 hours this got boring. I turned my fan on and immediately felt better. It turns out I was just super hot. Then I watched another episode. After the fourth go-round with Sam and Dean I wasn't over-heated anymore. A little hungry maybe.. Wait, I only work maybe 15 hours a week. My biggest responsibility is just taking care of myself. I have plenty of money for food and playing in the city on the weekends. I can lay in bed for 4 hours on Friday morning if I feel like it. What the heck am I complaining about?! Life is amazing!
Then I got out of bed and made myself some fried cabbage and rice.
My eleventh-grade friends came over later and listened to cheesy Portuguese music with me and then they brought me 10 gallons of water from a mystery location. And all was right with the world again.
