Something different now

Like I said yesterday, I'm trying to figure out what new normal is.  I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing here--am I supposed to get up and go to school at 7?  Serge said no.  Should I just get dressed and wander around over there anyway?  Maybe this afternoon.  So, I guess I spend a lot of time wandering around my little house coming up with things to do.  I also have lots of time to think.  This morning, I was making my coffee and I realized that even 2 months in Africa has made me kind of a different person.  So here's a short list of things that are different now:

1.  I put milk and sugar in my coffee.  This is an extreme example of how CRAZY-balls grad school is--when it's too much work to add anything to your coffee...maybe you're crazyballs.

2.  I hoard water.  I caught 3 large buckets of rain water yesterday and it was one of the proudest moments of my day.

3.  I make a lot less garbage.  Which is good because I still have NO idea where it goes.  Nothing has packaging here.  When I go to the market and buy vegetables or any other food thing (tuna is an exception, it comes in a can) they just weigh it out and put it in a sack. Rice, flour, salt, sugar...everything is bought in bulk.  So, the garbage I do have can typically be used for something else (at this point it's mostly plastic bags, people use those to light carvao here).  However, I have noticed that most of the garbage that I can't get rid of otherwise is from the states--drink packages, qtips...so much packaging.

4.  I'm more patient.  I'm getting really good at waiting.

In other news, I finished cleaning my room.  It looks nice now.
