22 October 2012

First:

These are some of the "You know you're a PCT when...." lines that one of the talent show acts read during our Ngoma time last week and my comments where appropriate:

When you’ve eaten chicken feet and liked it.
This doesn’t apply to me yet.

You’ve never wanted to go to Swaziland so much in your life.
We can see it from the social center.  Some people’s backyards end in Swaziland (razor-wire and all).  There’s rumors around town that you can see giraffes there.  But, we’re not allowed to go there yet.

You forget what it’s like to flush a toilet.

You start introducing yourself the way Mozambicans say your name.
For me it’s SamWell or Sem.  When I introduce myself to a Mozambique-an, I usually receive a blank stare.  After a beat or two the light of recognition goes off in their eyes and they say “Ahhh, SamWell!”  Apparently, Sam isn’t a name here.

Second:  Pictures!

We call this a "Classy Crow" because it looks like it's wearing a Tux.   Because no one has a bird book, we've been re-naming all the African Birds.  Now that I have internet, I've been uploading photos to ProjectNoah.com to get ID's.  This is actually called  Pied Crow.
