One month to go..

I'll be headed to staging in one month.  I'm not sure if I have my head completely wrapped around this yet.  When I got my invitation I was rolling out of bed in Canada, on my way to breakfast. Overnight and through the miracle of Facebook my mom had sent me the details of my invitation. Mozambique, September. Uhhh. Much sooner than I expected or hoped.  I was supposed to work at quail camp until the 4th of September. Then I would still need close to 2 weeks to drive to Miami to get my dogs before driving up to Idaho. That didn't leave much time to get all the paperwork and packing and financial stuff in order. So I left Quail Camp for 2 weeks. I drove from Grand Manan, New Brunswick to Miami picked up my dogs and had dinner with my friends one last time. The next day I picked my dad up at the airport and he drove with me to Arizona. We visited my grandparents there for a day and then drove up through Nevada to Idaho.

I spent 4 days at home. Hanging out with friends and ordering stuff I want to take with me: new rain gear, chacos, new shirts and pants, new eyeglasses. I got my Yellow fever shot. Now I'm on my way back to Quail Camp. I took 3 Planes yesterday and arrived in Portland at midnight. I tried to find a hotel when I got in but the best I could do was a smoking room at the Motel 6 for $75 plus cab fare. I asked the information desk for help. The lady there tilted her head at me and said "why don't you just sleep on the couches over there?". So I did and it was lovely. This is my favorite airport in the world right now. There's comfy couches to sleep on, free wifi and a coffee machine that I found 75 cents in!
I'm waiting to hop on a bus up to Bangor now to meet up with Quail Camp folks.  Ill be up in Canada until the 6th of September, so I will be too busy to worry too much about preparations until I'm home again. Here's to hoping there's no curve-balls in the meantime.

  1. Wondering where your pups are... guessing at home with you parents? Wish I'd known you were here. Or maybe I did and was consumed with something. Don't remember.
